Archimedes of Syracuse (c. 287–212 BC) was an ancient Greek mathematician, physicist, engineer, astronomer, and inventor. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest mathematicians and scientists of antiquity, making groundbreaking contributions to geometry, mechanics, and hydrostatics. He lived and worked in Syracuse, Sicily, until his death during the Roman siege of the city.
